Collection: Sugarcane Fiber Bowl

Sugarcane Fibre (Bagasse) Bowls

Our sugarcane bowls give Melbourne cafés and caterers a sturdy, compostable option for soup, salad and poke. Unlike flimsy paper bowls, bagasse holds its shape under hot or wet food and doesn't turn soggy halfway through service. Buy by the carton, and we'll deliver free across metro Melbourne.

Why Sugarcane (Bagasse) Bowls?

Bagasse comes from the fibre left over once sugarcane is crushed for juice. It would otherwise go to waste, so using it for packaging is a genuinely low-impact choice, not just a marketing line. Compared to plastic or foam, it handles heat better, resists grease, and breaks down through composting instead of sitting in landfill for decades. It's also sturdier than most paper bowls, so it won't buckle under a heavy poke bowl or a hot soup.

Bowl Sizes & Uses

Right now, our range is built around the 12oz bagasse bowl, holding roughly 355ml. That's a solid size for a single serve of soup, a salad, or a poke bowl with toppings, and it works just as well for hot sides at a catered event. If you need other sizes for your menu, get in touch, and we can talk through what's coming into the range.

Hot Food, Microwave & Leak Resistance

These bowls are built for hot food. They handle temperatures up to around 120°C, so soup, curry and other hot dishes won't warp the bowl or leave it soggy. They're microwave-safe too, generally fine for a short reheat of a couple of minutes on medium. On leaks, we'll be straight with you: bagasse is leak-resistant, not leak-proof. It holds liquid well for normal service and delivery times, but for very runny dishes, pair the bowl with a sealing lid rather than relying on the bowl alone.

Matching Lids for Takeaway

A bowl without a lid isn't much use for takeaway. Pair this bowl with a matching lid from our Sugarcane Fibre Lids collection to keep food secure and stop spills in transit. Getting the fit right matters more than people expect, so check the lid size against your bowl before ordering in bulk.

Compostable & Disposal

These bowls are commercially compostable, meeting AS 4736. That means they break down properly in an industrial composting facility, generally within a few months. They're not necessarily suited to a standard home compost bin, since home setups don't reach the same heat. If your business or venue has access to commercial composting or FOGO collection, that's the best way to dispose of them. Where composting isn't available, they still go in general waste, but the compost route is where the environmental benefit really shows.

Bulk Bowls for Foodservice

We sell by the carton, which keeps the per-unit cost down for cafés, caterers and venues going through bowls in volume. Order what you need, and we'll deliver free across metro Melbourne. For larger or recurring orders, contact us directly, and we'll sort out pricing and delivery that suits your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are bagasse bowls compostable?

Yes. They're commercially compostable under AS 4736, meaning they break down properly in an industrial composting facility rather than a standard home bin.

Are they microwave safe?

Yes, for short reheats. A couple of minutes on medium heat is generally fine, since bagasse handles temperatures up to around 120°C.

Are they leak-proof enough for soup?

They're leak-resistant rather than fully leak-proof. They handle soup well for normal service, but for very liquid dishes we'd suggest using a sealing lid alongside the bowl.

What sizes and capacities are available?

The current range is the 12oz bowl, around 355ml. Contact us if you're after a different size for your menu.

Do the bowls come with matching lids?

Lids are sold separately through our Sugarcane Fibre Lids collection, so you can match the lid to your bowl size.

Are bagasse bowls better than plastic or paper bowls?

For hot or wet food, generally yes. Bagasse holds up better than plain paper and composts, unlike plastic or foam, which just breaks down into microplastics or doesn't break down at all.

Do you deliver in Melbourne and offer bulk pricing?

Yes. We offer free delivery across metro Melbourne, and carton pricing brings the per-unit cost down for bulk orders.
