Introduction
Our disposable plates are made from sugarcane fibre, also known as bagasse. They come in round and square shapes, with single and multi-compartment options in sizes from 6 inches to 10 inches. Each plate is compostable and sturdy, and it holds up well to hot, oily food. They suit cafes, caterers, and events across Melbourne, and we offer bulk cartons with free metro delivery.
Why Choose Sugarcane (Bagasse) Plates?
Bagasse plates are compostable, and they don't leave microplastics behind once they break down. They also handle hot and oily food better than most paper plates, since paper usually needs a plastic coating for grease resistance. Compared to foam and plastic, bagasse breaks down instead of sitting in landfill for years. That's a big reason cafes across Melbourne are switching over.
Plate Sizes & Types
We stock round and square plates, plus versions with 2 or 3 compartments for keeping sides away from mains. Entrée plates run 6 inches to 7 inches. Dinner plates run 9 inches to 10 inches. Pair them with our sugarcane fibre bowls for soups and sides, or round out the setup with compostable cutlery.

Are Bagasse Plates Microwave & Oven Safe?
Yes, you can reheat food on a bagasse plate in the microwave without it warping. The fibre also resists grease well, so oily food isn't a problem. They're not made for a conventional oven though, so stick to microwave use only. For a closer look at the limits, see our can you microwave paper plates and bagasse blog.
Compostable & How to Dispose
Our plates meet AS 4736 for commercial compost and AS 5810 for home compost. If your council runs a FOGO bin, you can drop them in with food scraps. Without access to compost, they'll still break down eventually, but composting speeds things up and keeps disposal tidy.
Bulk Plates for Events & Foodservice
We sell by the carton, so the price per plate drops the more you order. That works well for caterers, food trucks and event organizers going through stock quickly. We also offer free delivery across Melbourne metro on bulk orders, so restocking stays simple.
Frequently Asked Questions

Are bagasse plates microwave safe?
Yes, you can reheat food on them in the microwave. They're not designed for conventional ovens.
Are they sturdy enough for a full hot meal?
Yes. The fibre holds firm under hot, oily food and won't bend or leak like a thin paper plate.
What sizes do the plates come in?
Sizes run from 6 inches up to 10 inches, in round and square shapes, with single and multi-compartment options.
Are bagasse plates better than plastic or paper plates?
They compost, which plastic doesn't, and they resist grease better than most paper plates, since paper often needs a plastic coating to hold up against oil.
